The amnesiac character trope awakens, remembering nothing but knowing enough to drive the plot forward. He knows how to walk, how to talk and how to solve basic problems. As the character learns, the reader absorbs.
The reader tropes as well. Tropes their way to forgetting, tropes their way to escaping and tropes their way eventually to an ending. Close the fourth wall gently behind you, dear reader.
And once a reader no longer? What then? Trope on, friend. Trope on.
