Beta Testing the Apocalypse - By Tom Kaczynski
Supposedly most people are attracted to books (and information) that reinforce their own point of view. As an example, people who identify strongly as atheists read books about atheism written by atheists. We tend to read things that make us say, "I knew it! I was right!".
Sounds pretty boring to me but my point of view is that I enjoy having my point of view rattled which means I tend to read books that rattle my point of view thus confirming the above hypothesis.
Kaczynski's book both rattles and confirms my need for rattling confirmation. His use of language dovetails with my own love of drop kicking words to get things done. His storytelling methods, also appealing to me, seem to have eaten at least an eighth of an ounce of psychedelic mushrooms. His odd coloring style of black and white plus one color (and changing that color for each story) left me wondering what sinister plot he and the primordial recesses of my brain were up to. After reading this book, which is a collection of previously published stories and one new story, I felt appropriately dislodged from reality. Awesome stuff.
