Type : Suspense Setting : Warehouse Crux : Power failure has hit the building Characters : Sleuth following a lead. Plus any others you like. Length : 500 words or less
When the lights went off I just laughed. The world heaps on danger sometimes and what else can a man do? I could cry or scream but how would it help? Chase a gaggle of thugs into a warehouse and it's expected that the power gets cut.
The clicking, though, I didn't like. It was rhythmic enough to be mechanical but sporadic enough to be human. I nestled up against a wall full of discarded high school gym lockers. These things do not smell better with neglect. In fact, they had acquired a rusted smell that complemented the mustiness quite horribly.

That was when I heard the garage door open.
